ASSEMBLEIA LEGISLATIVA DO RIO DE JANEIRO

This is a picture of Rio de Janeiro Legislature. It's the place where I work. The name of this building is PALACIO TIRADENTES, where is installed the Parliament.
In the past, in the same place of Palacio Tiradentes there was a public prision, called old prision which was built in 1826. A national martyr (a person who died defending the country)called Tiradentes was in this prision before he die.
The old prision was demolished and the palace was built, and received the name of the martyr: Tiradentes.
Since 1926 this is the place where politicians have been working to make laws for the population of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
I have been working there since 1985. I'm a reviser. I correct the speech of the politicians. Now I have a license to be out of work for two years. And as you know I'm using this time here, in Calgary.
I like my job very much.

MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY

Last saturday was my daughter's birthday. She is 17 now. She is a very, very beautiful girl, and I'd like to put one of our pictures together here, on my blog, but she said to me: "Mom, absolutely not!". So, I didn't do it.

I began to celebrate her birthday on friday. I invited her to have lunch here, at the University. As she don't know the University we could go to Den, and after we'd go to the bookstore (a place which I like), and to the hairstylist saloon, too. But we changed our mind, at the last minute, and went to the other retaurant. Guilherme, her brother, wanted to go with us. Also my husband and his son (the stepbrother of Renata).
We had a great time! Everybody was happy and the meat was wonderful.

But we continued on celebrating. On saturday we had a barbecue dinner with all family. Everybody was from Brazil, so my husband and I drank a very special kind of drink very famous in my country called "caipirinha". Delicious!

Renata use part of Sunday shopping at Chinook bying her gifts. When she arrived I had prepared her favorite dinner: pizza! I prepared 6 types of different pizzas. She loved and so do we. I made, also, a chocolate cake.
We sang the traditional song for birthday and, at last, the celebrations were finished.

This is other part of my city. A place I love called
Baía de Guanabara. It's a big place, so it's near
two neighbors and downtown, where I work. There are
some restaurants where we can adnire this scenery.
If some day you'll decide go to Brazil, it will
be a pleasure show you this beautiful nature.

Reading & Writing Class - my chalenge or my pleasure?

The activity using the book "Charlie and Chocolate Factory" has been a very interesting work, and the vein, a challenge. By the way, all ESL classes are a challeng for me. I have been working hard and I hope improving my English as much as I can.
I can easily understand the book, but I don't understand the details. So, I need to use the dictionary. I know Kristi asks us all the time not to do this, but I think is very, very good to understand all that is written.
When I'm reading I connect parts of the history with real life, but not necessarily my life. Of course the author puts a strong meaning in parts of the book, in fact he overdoes, but even so it's very possible to reflect about the things he "says".
In class we can analyze in group the history under several ways, but I'm not sure if we're going to make the same effort as we did in the first day we used the book. I like to work with my group. All of us have been participating in a positive way until now.
I wish we had time to use another book in class. It's a very good way to learn new vocabulary, to analyze the history deeply and to check grammar
